Maharashtra’s world-class sports university to begin in 2021 in Pune

The university will unite the resources of different games a lot, other than exploration, preparing and improvement to deliver public and worldwide level sportspersons in different controls

In a critical advance, the Maharashtra government will set up its first top notch global games college in Pune and it will be useful from the following scholastic year, 2021-2022, Maharashtra Sports Minister Sunil Kedar said here on Thursday.

The university will unite the resources of different games a lot, other than examination, preparing and advancement to create public and global level sportspersons in different controls, the clergyman said.

Kedar said that the rambling Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex (SCSC) in Balewadi, Pune, would be moved up to the status of an undeniable college with starting subsidizing of Rs.400-crore, as reported in the spending plan.

The SCSC has facilitated the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games, other than a few other public and worldwide games and has a large portion of the important foundation required for an elite games preparing complex, said Kedar.

“The university will offer courses and research in sports, sports-related science, sports medicine, technology, training and coaching in various disciplines, sports management, sports media and communication and related aspects. All facilities shall be on par with international standards to enable the students and players get quality training and inputs in their chosen sports fields,” Kedar explained.

Kedar said that the state has a long wearing convention and has delivered numerous public and worldwide level games stars in various games a lot, and will keep on doing as such with the approach sports college later on.

“There is a need to improve the quality of sports facilities, develop and nurture national/international level players as well as provide technical manpower in the field of sports by starting courses in various faculties. In this way, job opportunities may be made available in the field of sports in the future,” said Kedar.

Of the proposed 216 posts, 166 will be perpetual, including that of the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, the college staff, and the different heads of offices, and so forth The excess 47 will be of legally binding nature. Additionally, top specialists and sports legends in different fields will be welcomed from India and abroad on honorarium or agreement premise.

The move follows a report by a board headed by Dr Vijay Khole, ex-Vice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai, which presented its draft demonstration to the public authority on the ‘International Sports University, Maharashtra, 2020’.

A week ago, the state bureau directed by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray affirmed the draft charge which was passed in the Winter Session of Maharashtra Legislature this week, he added.
