Feed The Five Thousand, or FT5K (formerly known as The Gabriel Foundation), a non-profit organization with a mission to help those underserved in its local, North Houston community as well as around the world, is celebrating the donation of almost $10 million in fresh food to North Houston area families over the past 10 years.
This is a huge milestone for the The Woodlands based Non-Profit that is hosting a celebration event at WorkLodge, The Woodlands’ premier private office & coworking space on the evening of November 5th, 2022. Founded in their kitchen in 2012 by Mike Thakur and his wife, Linda, FT5K has blossomed into an impactful arm of WorkLodge, a purpose driven for profit business dedicated to chasing impact as well as profit.
FT5K has successfully delivered multiple successful projects in the Houston community and beyond over the past decade, working almost exclusively through partnerships with other, amazing partners and local organizations. One specific project has been the collection and distribution of approx. 800 to 1,000 pounds of fresh food every single day except Thanksgiving and Christmas since 2012, equally a total of almost $10,000,000 of food being given away. .
“I think any company that is profitable has a responsibility to invest some of those profits back into the community and into people that need help because none of us got where we are without someone helping us,” Thakur said. “Some people may not think that’s the wisest way to build a business, but we believe doing the right thing always wins.”
Feed The Five Thousand (FT5K) would also like to thank friends, customers (of WorkLodge) and all its partners for their support over the years, without whom this milestone could never have been achieved.
